The documentation (that we are still extending... and correcting) is sometimes overwhelming for newcomers.

That's why we just published a tutorial called "my first project", the first of a long list, that illustrates the full process of application creation.

Feel free to experience with it and give us your feedback.

Hi,

Thanks for the great work, I have used Ruby On Rails for a project but went back to PHP. Your project could be exactly what I have been waiting for.

Couldn't get the pear symfony install to work though, I get this error:

downloading pake-1.0.69.tgz ...
Starting to download pake-1.0.69.tgz (16,395 bytes)
......done: 16,395 bytes
Segmentation fault

Also, do you mean adding them to the path with this statement from 'Installing Symfony'? Could you make this clearer for us.

"In addition, you will have to make the shortcuts to allow the call to the command line tools pake and symfony."

thanks,

Hi,

These are the same issues I am having, as posted in the wiki:

Paul, we had a misconfigured firewall which prevented downloads to work properly. I hoped it is fixed now. PEAR installations and .tgz downloads must work now.

Hi Fabien,

I am new to using pear channels. However, if I understand correctly, symfony has a dependency on Pake. Therefore if Pake fails on install, so will symfony.

I am still getting the same error as I listed earlier.

So, by trying to install Pake via pear by itself I get this error.

pear install http://www.pake-project.org/downloads/pake-current.tgz
downloading pake-current.tgz ...
Starting to download pake-current.tgz (16,571 bytes)
......done: 16,571 bytes
Segmentation fault

That error does not appear with symfony. Can you please double check that pear install http://www.pake-project.org/downloads/pake-current.tgz
works for you. If so the problem is on my machine.

Btw, I never had a problem downloading the files. It is the pear channel that is the challenge.

thanks,

Paul, I just tried to reinstall Pake directly with PEAR and all seems to be fine for me. Send me an e-mail so we can try to resolve this issue offsite.
