We've just published a new chapter in the documentation where all the steps to a successfull web server configuration are explained.
Several solutions are given, including the possibility to make an alias.
Note that this is only possible if you use a nightly build of symfony with minimum version 0.5.16, so don't forget to update you symfony package by calling:
pear upgrade symfony/symfony-beta
