As you may have noticed, the symfony project has a new home. Our old 2 processors machine can now enjoy a well earned retirement, symfony-project.com now runs on an impetuous brand-new quad core.

This move is important to us because as you are more numerous to come, participate, download and use symfony, the old server was constantly under a heavy load and began to randomly crash (especially the week end or at night). It will also allow us to host the symfony forge on the same server to provide an official place to host symfony plugins or related projects.

Some generous sponsors allowed symfony-project to afford a new server and hosting:

• Sensio Labs gave us the server and hosting fees
• Nexen Services offered us backup, outsourcing and 24/7 monitoring.

The web agency Sensio Labs is already known as symfony's main sponsor, providing time and code to the project. Nexen Services is a hosting company specialized in Linux Apache MySQL PHP hosting solutions deeply involved in the PHP community. Both companies agreed on sharing ressources to promote symfony because it was open source and aimed at professionals.

For those who wonder what the title is about, Azur was the old server's name and Hippocampe (seahorse in french) the new one.

  It'd be interesting seeing some database/page hit stats, if the project doesn't mind publishing them. The site, after all, is a symfony application, and it would be interesting to see how this scales, especially when attracting spikes from Digg et al.
