NetBeans, the open-source development environment sponsored by Sun, is planning to include support for PHP frameworks in its upcoming versions. As there are so many PHP frameworks, NetBeans developers have organized a public election to choose the two PHP frameworks that will be initially supported.
If you like symfony framework, please spend two minutes voting for it:
- Sign up as a user on this page: http://www.netbeans.org/servlets/Join (you must only provide a login and a valid email)
- Check your email and click on the link to set the password of your account
- Access the page http://www.netbeans.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=145913
- Click on the "Vote for this issue" link
- In the election ballot that appears, scroll down until you see a row that shows "145913 Support for symfony". You must manually put a "1" in the adjacent text box to indicate that you vote for symfony.
- Click on the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page to cast your vote.
This is a unique opportunity to support symfony because the effort required is negligible and the reward could be great. NetBeans is one of the most widely used development environments and native symfony support would facilitate its use by symfony beginners.

I see that Symfony seems to be winning. It will definitely get my vote. However, as a back-up, I think some of us could come together to create the NetBeans plugin. The same way that those behind Symfoclipse did.

It would be great indeed if Netbeans had support for Symfony. One thing: if you register and vote for this issue, you will get a whole bunch of email from their bug tracking system. You can disable this by loggin in, surfing to http://www.netbeans.org/issues/userprefs.cgi?bank=diffs and selecting "No email notifications".

I started using Netbeans 6.5 at the same time I started using symfony. They work very well together and Netbeans is a very nice IDE.
I used Eclipse previously, and I was relatively happy with the PHP support. But Netbeans has jumped to the head of the pack with this release IMHO.
