The symfony framework has been an Open-Source project for more than three years and has become one of the most popular PHP frameworks thanks to its great features and great documentation. And this grand tradition started early on.

In December 2005, just after the first official release of symfony, we published the "Askeet tutorial", a set of 24 tutorials, published day-by-day between December 1st and Christmas.

This tutorial has proven to be an invaluable tool to promote the framework to newcomers. A lot of developers learned symfony thanks to askeet, and many companies still use askeet as their main training material.

Today, we are celebrating the release of symfony 1.2 and the askeet tutorial starts to show its age. So, it's time for another fresh tutorial.

Enter Jobeet, the 2008 symfony advent calendar tutorial!

That's right, we will do it again. As for askeet, every day including week-ends, a new tutorial will be published. Each tutorial is meant to last about one hour, and will be the occasion to learn symfony by coding a real web application, from start to finish.

Every day, new features will be added to the application, and we'll take advantage of this development to introduce you to new symfony functionalities as well as good practices in symfony web development.

Tutorials will be published everyday on this blog and permanently available in the documentation section of the website. If you are not yet subscribed to the symfony blog feed, that's the right time to do so.

As the Jobeet tutorial has been written for symfony beginners, the only requirements are a good knowledge of PHP5 and Object Oriented programming. But even if you already know symfony, take the time to read the tutorials as you will probably learn new tricks, and learn about the new exciting symfony 1.2 features.

One last word before you discover Jobeet. The symfony framework is more than just code and documentation. It's also about the community. And symfony has one of the most active community around. With the release of symfony 1.2 and the new Jobeet tutorial, this is yet another opportunity to leverage our community magic power.

So, if you have a blog, if you are active on PHP forums, or if you meet fellow PHP developers who do not use a framework yet, it's time to spread the word about all the new symfony goodness. To ease your task, we have prepared some banners to be used on your websites and blogs:

UPDATE: If you want to translate the tutorial day by day in another language, send me your trac username and I will grant your write access to the jobeet tutorial. But first, subscribe to the documentation mailing-list, as all translations are coordinated there and some people have already expressed interest in such translations.
