mbpDistributedCachePlugin (for symfony >= 1.3)

The mbpDistributedCachePlugin is a symfony plugin that provides you with useful tools to clear the cache on a distributed server system (such as a cluster).

Installation

• Install the plugin (via a package)

  symfony plugin:install mbpDistributedCachePlugin
  

• Install the plugin (via a Subversion checkout)

  svn co http//svn.symfony-project.com/plugins/mbpDistributedCachePlugin/trunk plugins/mbpDistributedCachePlugin
  

• Activate the plugin in the config/ProjectConfiguration.class.php

  class ProjectConfiguration extends sfProjectConfiguration

    }

• Rebuild your model

  symfony doctrine:build-model
  symfony doctrine:build-sql
  

• Update you database tables by starting from scratch (it will delete all the existing tables, then re-create them):

  symfony doctrine:insert-sql
  

  or do everything with one command

  symfony doctrine-build-all-reload frontend
  

  or you can just create the new tables by using the generated SQL statements in data/sql/schema.sql

• Register your current server to the database (replace [SERVER_NAME] with your unique server name and run this on every server):

  symfony distributed-cache:register-server [SERVER_NAME]
  

Clear your cache (across applications)

To clear parts (or all) of the cache, run:

    CacheClearer::clear([CACHE_KEY]);

or

    CacheClearer::clearAll();

Here are some useful examples:

    CacheClearer::clear('product/show');
    CacheClearer::clear('product/list?page=*&sf_culture=*');
    CacheClearer::clear('@sf_cache_partial?module=product&action=_membersSlider&sf_cache_key=*');
    CacheClearer::clearAll('frontend');

These could be used, e.g. in a processForm() method in the backend to clear parts of the cache on the frontend like this:

        FrontendCacheClearer::clear('product/list?page=*&sf_culture=*');
        FrontendCacheClearer::clear('@sf_cache_partial?module=product&action=_membersSlider&sf_cache_key=*');

Schedule the clearing of the cache

On every production server, add the symfony distributed-cache:cc task to the crontab and run it, e.g. every minute.
